How to Apply

An application consists of the completed application form and up to 4 jpeg images of your work.

Completing the form

The application form is an editable PDF, available here.

The form starts with a checklist so you can demonstrate that you meet our eligibility requirements. We don’t want you to waste your time or ours if you are not eligible or ready to apply.

The main body of the application is in two parts:

Part 1 asks about you and a little about your project, but the focus is on whether your project is a good fit for our funding and what you want us to pay for.

Part 2 asks you to provide more detailed information and fully explain your project. This section is designed to allow us to understand the project from your perspective.

There are some help notes (in italics) in the application form and some hyperlinks out to relevant points in this guidance.

All your answers are in boxes on the form.  Many of the boxes have word limits and boxes are sized accordingly, with indicative character counts.

It may be stating the obvious but please keep to the point when answering the questions.  You do not need to fill the entire box if you can say it in fewer words.

There is a box at the very end of the form that you can use if there is anything else you feel we need to know that you have been unable to fit in any of the other boxes (including in the budget).  Please only use this if you have to.

Tips on the budget

Please keep your descriptions succinct, there’s a character limit for each box.

If you are using a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader, the form will do your sums for you, including telling us the percentage (%) of grant you are requesting.  If you are filling in the form on your internet browser, we’ve found that some (such as Safari) can’t work auto-sums. If this happens to you, please just add up your figures yourself and put your totals in the boxes below.

In the row for Artist’s fees, the box headed ‘Grant requested’ is deactivated. This is because Artist’s fees can only appear as in-kind or funded by others.

Not every row in the form will be relevant for your project. Just fill out the ones that are relevant to you.

If you do not see an exact match for something you want to enter, put it where you think it best matches and use the description column to explain, or use one of the ‘other’ boxes.

Images of your work

We ask you to upload up to four images (jpegs) of your work with the completed application form.

Please use the second from last box on the form to tell us what they show,  and when and where they were taken.

Submitting the application

Email your application form to info@cowardphotography.org along with up to four images.

The email must have the applicant’s name in the subject (eg “Jane Doe - grant application”).

The application form and the JPEG images must be included as separate attachments in the one email, so that we receive them together. But please DO NOT bundle them into a Zip file.
